故事发生在1980年。北京西长安街一辆满载乘客的公共汽车上，十三四岁的男孩小元，在一个外号叫"野猫"的小伙子掩护下，偷了一位干部模样的老人的绿色钱包，并很快把钱包转到"野猫"手中。当韩小元又把手伸向另一个乘客的口袋时，被西馆女服务员辛虹抓住，当即送到公安机关。这是韩小元第三次被拘留。释放后，他被送进工读学校。在学校欢迎韩小元的晚会上，韩小元发现给大家唱陕北民歌的老校长，正是被他偷了绿色钱包的那个老人，而他还把"野猫"还给自己剩有15元的钱包带到了学校。他赶忙跑回宿舍把钱包揣在裤衩兜里。韩小元有尿床的毛病，晚上他又尿了床。第二天出早操时，韩小元放在被子里的湿裤衩，被老校长连同湿被子一起拿去晾晒了。中午，韩小元从老校长家取回晒士的被子和缝好洗净的裤衩，却发现那个钱包不见了。他怀疑钱包是被值日生李四毛拿走的。于是，轮到他值日时，便翻了李四毛的箱子。韩小元没...。At the age of 89, Julián takes one last bus ride to El Paso, Texas, to visit his daughters and their children —a lengthy trip he has made without fail for decades.
