地处偏僻的神和田村，是一个人口严重流失、老龄化程度极高的村落。医生伊野治的到来为老人们解决了治病无门的烦恼，他和蔼可亲，医术高明，被当地人奉为神明，备受尊敬。从东京来此实习的年轻医师相马启介起初也不了解伊野甘于寂寞的做法，但随着出诊次数的增加，他和当地人建立了质朴的友情，也对伊野医生有了更多地了解。 然而就在两个月后的某个夜晚，伊野医生神秘失踪，村民们慌乱不安，十分担心他的安危。而负责此案的警官却似乎另有想法，经过一系列的调查，关于伊野治的身份和秘密渐渐浮出水面……。Henriette and Louise, a foundling, are raised together as sisters.
