Tora-san comes back to his old home in Shibamata. His university professor Mr Okakura (Masakane Yonekura) suddenly arrives at his home which makes Tora-san so angry that he plans to leave home. However, his old friend Chiyo (Kaoru Yachigusa) comes to visit him. The two of them begins to reminisce about old times, and has developed a kind of bonding between them. At the same time, Mr Okakura has become attracted to Chiyo, which makes this the first ever love triangle for Tora-san. Superstar Kinuyo Tanaka has a special appearance in this film.。武七（赵丹 饰），是山东堂邑人，7岁丧父，与母亲乞讨为生，他想读书，靠打把式卖艺凑够钱，却遭学堂先生打骂，断了念头，母亲又因病去世。守孝完毕，武七出外做佣，经工友周大介绍，来张举人家当佣工，因他老实肯干，屡屡遭人欺负，只得婢女小桃帮助。小桃身世凄惨，7年前被逃亡的父母寄养在张举人家。后者篡改了卖身契，逼小桃就范。小桃的反抗最终失败，而武七的关心成为她最大的慰藉。某日，武七的老乡捎话，说其婶病重急用钱。憨厚的武七向张举人支取3年工钱，却被后者以假账相欺，武七争辩，反被诬为讹赖，遭到毒打，幸好小桃舍身相救，并请来了周大，才帮助武七逃走。武七气恨难消，不食不语，病倒3日。周大因此得罪张举人，被后者勾结官府判罪入狱，小桃也被迫卖给他人为妻。小桃挂记武七，在周大表弟李四指点下，终于见到武七。却没想到，吃尽文盲苦头的武七，立下了宏大的志愿——兴办义学……。The teenage daughter (Holly Taylor) of a religious fanatic (Bruce Davison) attempts to escape her father's delusional suicide pact after three strangers break down near her family's remote rural compound.。
