The subtitle of Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet’s first feature, from 1965, “Only Violence Helps Where Violence Reigns,” suggests the fierce political program evoked by their rigorous aesthetic. The pretext of the film, set in Cologne, is Heinrich Böll’s novel “Billiards at Half Past Nine,” which they strip down to a handful of stark events and film with a confrontational angularity akin to Bartók’s music that adorns the soundtrack. The subtlest of cues accompany the story’s complex flashbacks. The middle-aged Robert Fähmel tells a young hotel bellhop of persecutions under the Third Reich| his elderly father, Heinrich, an architect famed for a local abbey, recalls the militarism of the First World War, when his wife, Johanna, incurred trouble for insulting the Kaiser. A third-generation Fähmel is considering architecture, just as the exiled brother of Robert’s late wife, returns, only to be met by their former torturer, now a West German official taking part in a celebratory parade of war veterans. Straub and Huillet make the layers of history live in the present tense, which they judge severely. The tamped-down acting and the spare, tense visual rhetoric suggest a state of moral crisis as well as the response—as much in style as in substance—that it demands.。《香巴拉深处》由国务院新闻办策划、监制，由中央电视台联合四川省委宣传部、四川广播电视台、东方风行（北京）传媒文化有限公司等有关单位共同组织拍摄。《香巴拉深处》计划制作五集电视版纪录片（每集45分钟）和一部90分钟的同名纪录电影。其中电视版纪录片将通过不同层面，以当前先进的拍摄手段，真实记录四川西部藏区生活的人们以及自然界里其他生命正在发生的精彩故事和瞬间，全面反映那里人与自然的相处法则，人与人、民族与民族之间的共存共融，传统与现代的冲突与融合，文化的传承与创新等。电影版则围绕“人与自然”这一主题，以电影的规格对五集电视片中最精彩的故事进行再解构和再叙述，给观众提供别样的视听和心理感受。《香巴拉深处》总制片人颜占领也是此前国产大型纪录片《第三极》的总制片人，据他介绍，《第三极》聚集的主体区域是西藏，这次将记录的视角转移到四川藏区，是打造系列涉藏纪录片精...。
