民国初年，被誉为“东方大魔王”的民间魔术艺人张若松因表演炮打紫金冠讥讽了刚刚称帝的袁世凯，被通缉流亡他乡。他化名陈先生结识了“麻姑仙女”杜芳冰，，并随杜家魔术班子一起前往杭州。杜若冰打出“东方大魔王关门弟子”的旗号招徕观众，张若松亦尽全力帮助他们筹划演出。当张若松演出时，其真真假假的技艺令西洋魔王目瞪口呆，眼花缭乱，台下的打手也无法下手。洋魔王妄图杀害“东方大魔王”，张若松登台前收到了有刺客暗杀的便条……。该片讲述了上个世纪三十年代初发生在靖边死羊湾村(今广阳湾村)青年男女王贵和李香香的爱情故事，而他们的爱情是随着革命而觉醒的爱情。。SYNOPSIS Urgently called, the police inspector has arrived in a hotel, and didn't find any crime, but noticed some strangenesses occurring there. (Strugatsky Brothers website) NOTES This is a crime / mystery thriller with surreal and psychedelic science fiction overtones based on a book Inspector Glebsky's Puzzle by the Strugatsky brothers. The screenplay was also written by the brothers and it differs from the book. The less you know about the movie the better starting point you have. The film is based largely on the mystery of what's happening to the people of Dead Mountaineer's Hotel. Is everything what it seems? Who's dead or who's not?。
