本片讲述了《山海经》等古籍中极具个性色彩的八只妖怪。每集以“妖怪”在过往历史中的文字记载作为基本背景，采用动态漫画场景再现及真人访谈、讲述相结合的形式，带领观众一起感受我国古人了不起的想象力，体会传统文化的魅力，看到中国人充满力量的精神内核。。本片以上世纪六十年代的本地家庭为主轴，通过成员的际遇，带出早期的甘榜生活以及后来的组屋生活，剧情横跨数十年。 电影也将体现新加坡如何从一个以方言为主流语言的社会演变成华语到现今英语的过程，从中回顾流失的方言。它也会融入导演的许多亲身经历，并将安插多首怀旧歌曲。。In 2003, Marion Cross Academy witnessed a horrid incident involving a group of teenage students who were subjected to relentless bullying and humiliation.
